Valuation Disclaimer
Applies to the app and all site content · Last updated: July 30, 2026
All value estimates provided by the Antique Identifier app and published on this site are educational estimates, not appraisals. They are intended to help you learn about your items and decide whether further research is worthwhile — not to establish value for any transaction, legal, or financial purpose.
What our estimates are
- Ranges based on visual analysis of your photos and general market patterns for similar items.
- A starting point for your own research into comparable sold prices.
- A way to triage a collection — identifying which pieces deserve professional attention.
What they are not
- Not certified appraisals. Formal appraisal requires in-person examination by a qualified professional and a written report for a defined purpose (insurance, estate, donation, or sale).
- Not authentication. A photo cannot rule out reproductions, marriages, restorations, or fakes. Attribution of significant pieces requires physical inspection.
- Not an offer to buy, sell, or broker any item, and not investment, legal, or tax advice.
Why photo estimates have limits
Condition issues invisible in photos — hairline cracks, repairs, replaced parts, refinishing — routinely change values by half or more. Regional demand, auction timing, and provenance documents move prices in ways no image analysis can capture. Two visually identical items can sell for very different amounts.
When to hire a certified appraiser
- Insurance scheduling or claims.
- Estate settlement, equitable distribution, or probate.
- Charitable donations requiring IRS-qualified appraisals.
- Any item our app or your research suggests may be of significant value.
Look for appraisers credentialed by recognized professional organizations (such as ISA, ASA, or AAA in the United States) with a specialty matching your item. Ourappraisal guide explains how to prepare and what a formal appraisal costs.
